Home-Based Crisis Intervention Program

Home-Based Crisis Intervention Program (HBCI) is a program for children ages 5-17 designed to prevent psychiatric hospitalization. It is an intensive, short-term crisis intervention service and family education program. SJEH provides this service under contract with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The program offers crisis intervention, home-based assessment & treatment planning, psycho-education, family & individual therapy, case management & referral services. Therapists are available to families 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, to respond to a crisis situation.

Admission criteria:

  • Ages 5 to 18
  • Living at home
  • Primary caretaker available and able to participate in the intervention
  • Child or adolescent deemed at risk of psychiatric hospitalization

This program is a community service of the Community Mental Health Program of St. John's Episcopal Hospital.
